In a weekend of throwbacks, Ti West does a twist on 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,' Adrian Lyne brings sexy back after a two-decade absence and 'The Outfit' luxuriates in gangster style.
Deep Water: this is not a criticism of the review, but I cannot for the life of me figure out if I would have a good time watching the movie from what I read here. "a sexy, macabre Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" sounds 100% up my alley, but Scott keeps saying it also makes no sense, and that might kill it for me....
The sexual politics make absolutely zero sense and it feels like an episode of Tim and Eric Bedtime Stories played straight. It's absolutely hilarious.
Ya know, that is not the first time I've heard a version of the fact that Deep Water is, more or less, incomprehensible from people that I respect. Yet they still recommend it. So...fair enough, I guess?
I don't know if it's "incomprehensible" so much as fairly ridiculous, but that's really just on a story level. On a filmmaking/chemistry level, there's a lot here to appreciate.

Makes sense.
