Delia Owens' bestselling romance/courtroom drama/whodunit hybrid gets a suitably glossy adaptation and a documentary looks at Leonard Cohen through his oft-covered hymn.
I'm both not surprised and weirdly disappointed about this Crawdads mess. What's the point of having a studio system that can't even make just-good-enough Ashley Judd-flavored thrillers?
I haven't read the book, but reading the wiki entry sure does make it seem like the movie softened Chase so much it makes the killing come from nowhere
I am never going to watch that dumb Crawdads movie (even the name…) so I read the reveal. And have I to say, the very end of that is my favorite thing about this whole thing. That is bizarre.
This abhorrent review by Scott Tobias, currently showcased on the rotten tomatoes website page for this movie, almost deterred me from watching the movie altogether. Thank God I ignored Scott; his reviews matter only if you value graphic depictions of teenage sex and violence (“the PG13-ness buffs every rough edge off this story” ??🤮 ) over authentic character development, realistic depictions of 20th century womanhood, and complex, nuanced takes on the justice system and societal judgment.
20 mins into this movie you will be hooked. Seriously, that’s why I came here to follow up….
There is a reason why this is a bestselling novel, and Scott is ….well… yearning for more… in 2022….
After watching the movie, Scott’s review is giving pedo and patriarchy — I mean, what else could possibly be fueling this man’s criticisms that TEENAGE sex scenes and ADOLESCENT abuse scenes are too “PG-13”…
This movie was excellent. The sex/abuse scenes were tiny building blocks of the overall nuanced & complex plot. To evaluate a film based on the PG-13ness of TEENAGE sex scenes is ridiculous.
The only critics who could possibly want more graphic TEENAGE sex scenes are those who didn’t get it themselves….
The PG-13-ness of Where the Crawdads Sing buffs every rough edge off this story—the abuse, the abandonment, the betrayal, the sex, and even the alleged murder. It would be better off as trash. — Scott Tobias

Hurrah for the return of The Reveal!

I loathed the book but am a fan of Daisy Edgar-Jones, so I guess it’s an eventual streaming maybe.

So many people bought and enjoyed that book. It's crazy to imagine that they nodded along to that ending.
