This week's notable new releases—a cat-and-mouse thriller and Irish hip-hop biopic—have little in common beyond one-word rhyming titles and music concerts.
The premise of TRAP (suburban dad as serial killer) reminds me a lot of THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER, which I saw when it came out and liked a fair bit. I don’t plan on ever seeing TRAP, but I would watch CLOVEHITCH again.
Look, did I have a terrible time watching this movie? No. I think my kid and I had a more animated discussion about TRAP than we’ve had about much better movies. But is it good? Well…
Yeah. Classic M Night rug pull. I’m looking to have some fun for $6 on TUE with it. Turn off the brain, and let the heightened reality wash over my daughter and me
if the trailer I saw with some random concert worker stepping away from the giant line to divulge ultra-secret info on the side to a random stranger was accurate, no.
I see Kneecap at a festival, not initially realizing it was an actual band and a loose biopic. I enjoyed it more than Scott, though agree the Fassbender plot was the weakest and most predictable part. But the actual musical performances are electric, both the songs and the way the lyrics are translated onscreen. I can imagine it being a lot of fun with a big crowd.
I don't even know why I bother to subscribe to this when the review won't tell me whether or not a Mon Calamari admiral appears in a film to let me know whether the title is accurate or not
I had fun watching TRAP, but hooooboy this review isn't being unnecessarily harsh by calling some its twists and turns "stupid." (Let's just say the Philadelphia PD may have grounds for a lawsuit over how it's portrayed treating the pursuit of a serial killer with ... notable casualness.)
The movie satire site THE EDITING ROOM pointed out that the character actions at the concert make more sense if they were there for a baseball game, and wonder if that was what the original script did before M. night decided to shoehorn his daughter into the film.

Keith, why you killing our stupid TRAP summer?

"Does Shyamalan know how concerts work?"

has there been a good movie from the POV of a serial killer trying to evade police?
M.
Both versions, too — although Lang’s original is superior to Losey’s remake.
Empire Strikes Back?
Goodness, this is...so true...and hilarious!

Wait. Hayley Mills is in a movie about a trap laid out for a parent?! They should have called it The Custodial Guardian's Switcheroo.
Exquisite.
