I have an almost infinitely high tolerance for onscreen gore, but the moment you show me the red stuff through a medical lens, I wilt like a fucking flower. Which is to say, I shan't be seeing De Humani Corporis Fabrica, no thank you, no no no.

Seeing a lot of these responses. It's so good!

The latest string of high concept, one joke premise movies has been pretty hit and miss. I thought "What if Santa was in a violent action thriller?" was a good time but I skipped "What if...cocaine bear?" after reading reviews. It appears that Renfield falls into the latter camp but man, I still want to see Nicolas Cage's Dracula.

De Humani Corporis Fabrica sounds absolutely fascinating. Reminds me of when we got to watch some videos of surgeries when I had a relative who was a surgeon. Can't wait.

You can't wait! This is the first "sign me up" response I've gotten. And if you're up for it, you'll really like it. It's really something.

Of these, I like COCAINE BEAR best. I might slightly prefer RENFIELD to VIOLENT NIGHT. I just got so tired of that one by the end.

I like Tommy Wirkola but it's absolutely spot-on that he has one note he knows how to sing and if you're finding that note grating, it's gonna be a long watch.

The weird thing about Renfield is you can absolutely see how it was pitched as a Robert Kirkman comic but nothing delivered outside of the "gonzo" violence sequences. Two moves are "signature" Kirkman(arm-nunchaku and "kicks the literal shit out of [character]"). But I think I read that the previous Fantastic Fest "work in progress" screening was especially bad and missing two or three of the "fight" sequences.

I really liked Leviathan and enjoyed Manakamana. Somewhat nervous about how I might respond on a visceral level to the same technique applied to the medical procedures. It might be something of a crapshoot. I consider my home theater system a good one, so I suspect I'll probably wait to watch it at home, where, should something just start to trigger something, I can pause.

Or I could always just employ the (ending of) Pink Flamingos and Salo strategy of just covering my eyes for a while.

I see your point about Renfield, but there's no denying the fun time my wife and I had watching it after a long week of work. Definitely the right film at the right time, with the right drinks in hand, for us.

Also, we had two added treats with the movie. One was spotting New Orleans architecture, and noting the extreme liberties the film took with the city. And the other was Shohreh Aghdashloo: In her role in The Expanse as the suffer-no-fools Chrisjen Avasarala, she reminded me of one of my favorite high school teachers...who had the personal motto, "Living well is the best revenge." So when her character in Renfield said "Success is the best revenge" I could barely believe my ears!
