I loved Dear White People so much that Simien's name still feels like one that should get me out for a movie first day, but I'm really finding myself fighting to care at all about Haunted Mansion.
Talk to Me will be seen at some point, but when it comes to horror movies I tend to wait a week or two until things quiet down a bit.
Along similar lines, LaKeith Stanfield deserve ever penny of giant check he cashed for this movie, but me also with we lived in world where he got to live in swimming pool full of gold coins for Sorry to Bother You and Judas and Black Messiah and not have to waste his time with this garbage.
"but who could get too scared of all those round-faced, mostly jolly restless spirits?" Tell that to 8-year-old me who was suddenly terrified when the ride stopped moving for a few minutes.
I still haven't seen Dear White People, but I couldn't stand Bad Hair, so I don't think I'll be checking out Haunted Mansion (despite loving the 2003 film as a kid and the ride as an adult).
I have no intention of seeing this but I find the scene at the end of the trailer when Stanfield and DeVito are describing their assailant to the sketch artist to be legitimately funny
Yep. There are a couple of legit funny scenes. Fun cast. Looks good. Actually tries to engage honestly with the theme of grief. Kind of bleh mess is the problem.
Was fairly on board with Haunted Mansion (2023) until I found out Jared Leto was in it. Love Lakeith as an actor, big fan of Dear White People, and the trailer was actually pretty funny with the police sketch artist. My mild interest was overwhelmed by my hope for Jared Leto’s total collapse in Hollywood stature
Here to pipe up for Talk to Me. My girlfriend and I saw it yesterday, and we were both a little surprised at how much we enjoyed it. A solid premise, fine performances, some genuine scares, some inventive direction, and a kind of inevitability. Two thumbs up from us.
Talk to Me is getting talked about everywhere now, and I'm truly intrigued to finally see it, but I also hope it can live up this growing internet hype.
Haunted Mansion looks way too silly and infantile for my taste, but I do love me some Rosario Dawson and LaKeith Stanfield. I might give it a shot.

I’m hoping he’s moved into the “one for them” phase of his career and that he has a giant “one for me” coming up. I think he’s a generational talent.

Alas, that also came across in the trailer. Thanks for watching it so the rest of us don't have to.

There’s a fine line in Hollywood between sending your coworkers used condoms and dead rats and
Shit I forgot my point.
