George Miller's latest revisits his post-apocalyptic wasteland from a different perspective and a new drama unearths a strange, dark story from Italy's past.
When I saw FURY ROAD, I was sat in the very front row. It was a good front row, though: dead center, reclining seats, reasonable distance from the screen. Figured I'd be fine. Then the movie happened, and it was such an overwhelming tide of shit happening that I spent the whole rest of that night being violently motion sick. Even the shakiest shaky-cam movies haven't done that to me. 10/10, absolute masterpiece.
Will be sitting in the back row when I see Furiosa this weekend.
It’s been awhile since I’ve watched Fury Road, but what stood out to me in the mid film rig sequence was the longer takes between cuts. Fury Road was kinetic and frantic, but you never lose sight of where everyone is, whereas Furiosa definitely takes a more thoughtful approach.
Maybe it can be summed up as Fury Road being focussed on survival, with Furiosa taking more of a long view.
Anyway, saw it Friday night on a giant screen and loved it. It’s not Fury Road 2 but it doesn’t forget its forebearer either.
great point re: Yojimbo - there's an explicit reference when Furiosa spots a dog with a severed human foot in its mouth outside the gates of either the Bullet Farm or Gastown too
Finally caught up with Fury Road and felt underwhelmed. The big action set piece fell flat for me, missing the stakes and what seemed to me to be more live action stunt work.. maybe it's just because we do know what happens next, but I never felt any real tension.
Regarding Furiosa, me can only bring to mind words of a great M0therfucker:
