Violent Night sounds more like a wait till HBO thing but All The Beauty and the Bloodshed sounds amazing and makes me think of how Poitras is really the only person from Citizenfour who still seems to have stuck to their guns and beliefs while Snowden became a Russian puppet and Bitcoin guy and Greenwald became Peter Thiel’s plaything
Violent Night sound like one of those movies someone pitched based entirely on title and tagline ("You better watch out", which, let's face it, is absolutely perfect), and it sound like they fumble very easy assignment to make some dumb fun. We really need new Roger Corman to come along and do this stuff right.
The art that came out of the AIDS Crisis is some of the most powerful work I've ever witnessed, and All the Beauty and the Bloodshed puts that to really really effective use despite some typical activist doc trappings and style. Was truly shocked at how much of it functions as a memoir of Queer History, which imo makes it absolutely necessary.
You've said everything I could have said about All the Beauty and the Bloodshed. I was so impressed and moved by how it wove its larger subjects together in a way that felt deeply personal to Nan.
VIOLENT NIGHT seems like someone took that "Santa becomes an actor and stars in a violent action film" sketch from S2 of I THINK YOU SHOULD LEAVE and decided to flip some of the pieces around to make a movie.

To be fair, others seem to be having a better time with this than me. (Doesn’t mean I’m wrong.)

Goldin was there for *everything*, wasn't she? An incredible life, and I think we still end up learning so much about her.
