It's tricky: A ballerina with a secret surprises some kidnappers and some British spies get the better of a bunch of Nazis in this week's new releases.
I'm doing a double feature of these this weekend while I'm kicked out of the house for Mrs. Utah's book club. I'm pretty stoked! Abigail seems like a fun premise (Dan Stevens renaissance incoming?), and I have a weird amount of time for late-period Guy Ritchie. "Beefcakes of Navarone"? Hell yeah.
Ooooh I had no idea CUCKOO existed, but this looks totally up my alley! I love that he ditched his breakthrough role as the Earl of Handsome to wander around the genre landscape playing serial killers and kaiju veterinarians for ten years. It's like he pulled a David Caruso, but in the coolest way possible.
I have a high tolerance for Guy Ritchie. Really enjoying "The Gentlemen" Netflix series, though I'm only about halfway through it. I really like Theo James in it, whom I previously only knew from The White Lotus.
Haha a fellow man of culture! I've made about the same amount of progress through The Gentlemen, and I've been having a lot of fun with it. I dunno what it is with Ritchie, but when I'm in the mood for his schtick, it just hits.
Up here in Canada, the advertising for ABIGAIL has been very spoiler-heavy and completely ubiquitous. I had no idea that there was anything to the movie except for [redacted]. Man, when studios ruin their own products this way, it makes me really [redacted].
I think the studio must have felt they had a twist that was just too big a hook not to throw into every bit of advertising. A bummer! (See also: The trailer for the new M. Night.)
I tried to go for one that wasn't _too_ obvious but zooming in I guess it gives it away. But the ones with the rest of the cast were so dull and/or had them holding [redacted].
Well, even if I hadn't noticed, I saw the review in the Guardian later, which gives the game away even in the URL so I won't link it. It's top of the film section currently: https://www.theguardian.com/uk/film
Keith's right that ABIGAIL grows exhausting — the final stretch is one twist away from becoming SNL's "Dear Sister" sketch — but if anyone's interested, I had a fun time with it. The Radio Silence crew seems to have a knack for casting, and hit particular gold here, especially Stevens as a tightly wound grump and Newton as a sunny kidnapper. (Also, as someone receives AARP pamphlets, I'm not legally permitted to watch EUPHORIA , but Angus Cloud sure had screen presence to burn.)

Wait until you see Stevens in CUCKOO. Between that, this, and GODZILLA X KING KONG he's having a fun year.

Though of course I often need the subtitles.
I think it’s still on there but it’s the rare trick to then suggest people Revolver and have them go in expected modern Ritchie/Statham.
That's one I don't think I've ever seen, but I should.
Dan Stevens renaissance ONGOING. We join Dan Stevens renaissance already in progress!

M. Night who? The only M. Night I know is Shyamalan, and a movie he made would simply never revolve around a big twist.
"The best way to watch Abigail is to know as little about it as possible". Oops, too late, I looked at the header image.
