Hello The Reveal readers! (“Revealers”? No, that doesn’t sound right.) This is just a quick note to let you know that Scott and I are going to take a couple of days off this week. That means no essays / lists / bizarre theories in our usual Tuesday and Wednesday slots, but I’ll be here on Thursday with a review of Elvis.
While we’ve got you: We’re now nine months out from the launch of this newsletter, so it seems like a good time to ask our readers if there’s anything else we can be doing. We love the community that’s built up around The Reveal, but we’d like it to grow. Would it help to open a Discord channel? Could Scott and I show up for a live chat event? How else can we get everyone involved? And though our comments are usually reserved for paid subscribers, I’m going to open this comments section on this post to everyone.
That’s partly in the spirit of free discussion but also because we’d love to convert some of our free subscribers into paid subscribers. This is a long-term project for both of us, but to keep it thriving we need to expand our subscriber base. If you’ve been on the fence about subscribing, how can we bring you to the other side? Let us know! And, as ever, please keep sharing the work we do with your friends. We’re proud of what we do here and want to keep doing it for a long time.
Me have unrealistic dream that you'll merge with Harris and Handlen's substacks and just gradually rebuild classic-era AV Club under new name and with means of production firmly in hands of workers!
I'd definitely feel like I was getting the most from my paid subscription if you shared a bit more about upcoming features with enough time to watch/re-watch anything you're covering. I've really enjoyed the eclectic range of films but I've not always read a piece if it's a film on my watchlist - and the nature of Substack means I forget to circle back to the piece once the email is no longer unread.
